Tips for working your business in the midst of a pandemic.

Closed, but there’s still business to do. But How!?

Closed, but there’s still business to do. But How!?

What a curious world.

We’re in and out of Zoom calls most hours of the day, grateful for our ability to continue supporting all the passionate people, and also always wondering when’s the next time we’ll get to toast bourbon and bagels together in person.

One day at a time, right?

In the midst of that, we’re also constantly reminded how important consistency can be.

With so many things out of our control, we’re taking a lot of time to focus on what we CAN control.

One of those things is staying rooted in our message and values -- even as things fluctuate around us -- and understanding the difference between INNOVATING and PIVOTING.

We’re finding ways to double down on what we love but making it more relevant and helpful during this time (innovating) vs. changing up everything we do and want to do because we can’t do it the same we always did (pivoting).

Innovating allows us to get more creative and flexible now, which will only help our business in the long run.

Here are a few things to keep in mind about consistency while you’re stepping up to the innovation plate:

  • Experience:

    • The value of the services you provide has not changed. The market and demand may be shifting but your years of experience, skill & knowledge haven’t lost value.

  • Specials & Discounts:

    • Don’t offer a sale you wouldn’t offer any other time of year. Deeply discounting your prices now will make it harder to get back to your current pricing later. 2020 is not over, keep yourself set up for success.

  • Social Media:

    • Don’t post on social media just to post. Create content and education moments relevant to your business, but don’t add to the noise.

  • Giving Back:

    • Do support your community. Offer value, benefit or an added opportunity to give back in addition to a purchase or service in a way that doesn’t cost you money.

  • The Business of Busyness:

    • Do take a break if you need to. While we may find ourselves with more time on our hands, that time may be needed for your mental health. Work when you can, as often as you’d like, but don’t push yourself to create new things, work extra hours, or deep dive into your operations if you need that heart & brain space for self-care.

  • And Finally:

    • Do pay attention to your gut: There’s so much advice out there, ours included. Don’t listen to shit if it doesn’t make sense to you.

Most of all, remember:

Feeling stressed? Eat a cupcake and send us an email!
